Welcome

Art has been a passion of mine since I was very little and, thanks to the encouragement of my family, that love remained strong throughout my life. I attended the Memphis College of Art, where I graduated in 2008 with a BFA in visual design and illustration. Once I moved back to central Arkansas, I worked to foster a love and appreciation for the arts in my students as an elementary art specialist in the Pulaski County Special School District. After nine years of teaching, I made the decision to step away from education and refocus on my creative pursuits.

I have found that I tend to seek out more than one outlet for my creativity. I have a desire to learn, explore and experiment with a variety of media, such as watercolors, gouache, inks, digital art and clay. But, no matter the medium in which I work, the challenge of my art isn’t just about creating something meaningful but about how the meaning enters my work. My creative process does not often start with a spark of inspiration, but more often than not, the meaning develops and steers itself throughout the creative process. The challenge to myself is to restrain my desire for control and perfection. As a Christian and as an artist, I am continuously learning and relearning to let go and let God work through me. In this way, I feel closer to the One who created me as I seek to make art that echoes His character, grace, and truth; even if it’s just in a whisper.

My name is Allison Tucker. I am a visual artist based in Sherwood, AR.
