Look Up: Antique Window Painting

watercolor, colored pencil, gold leaf & antique window

I was thrilled to be chosen to participate in The Bernice Garden’s ‘Eyes Are the Windows to the Soul’ art show. I was given an antique window, the theme, and the freedom to do with it as I please.

I coated the glass of the window with Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground which creates an absorbent surface similar to cold press watercolor paper. It was a bit tricky as the paint would reactivate a bit more than it would on traditional paper, but I managed to work with it.

As we seek what is beautiful, we must remember that what is on this earth is only temporary. No matter how lovely it is; it will not last. Like a magnolia blossom, its beauty shines one day and withers the next. When we look up to God, we find a beauty that is truly eternal and will never fade.
