Main Street Pocket Park Mural

exterior paint

The Downtown Little Rock Partnership, together with Ben E. Keith Foods, renovated an empty lot and turned it into a pocket park. They selected ten artists to paint ten murals on the walls of the park. The murals focused on Ben E. Keith’s motto “Eat Local, Eat Often”.

I was very blessed to be one of the artists selected. In my mural I decided to illustrate the diversity of foods available in the downtown area. I decided to work with a monochrome color pallet so it was important that the foods I depicted had a strong visual presence; foods that are easily recognized despite the lack of familiar color. I had two weeks to complete my mural, so I utilized stencils, made from my ink sketches, and a grid to lay down the imagery. It was a lot more work up front, but it paid off in all the time saved in the actual painting process.
